Paul Duncan What is the greatest need in the campus ministry across Europe today?
I believe it’s a 1st year student who is already a multiplying discipler.
What a difference a handful of students like this could make during the years they are at university, they would transform most campuses. However people like this sadly don’t grow on trees.
But these are the people that the youth/high school ministries have been producing for the last 25 years. Take a look at where some of these people are now...
Andy Atkins the new national director of the UK was led to Christ and discipled by a UK high school staff member. Another high school ministry staff member in Zaragoza who led a young Javier Garcia to Christ and then discipled him.
I’d like to hear of stories like this repeated 100’s of times across Europe, as
the next generation of young Javiers and Andys arrive at University ready to be multiplying disciplers on the Campus.
I believe that these two examples have not happened by coincidence but are a reminder from God. They are to encourage us that the youth/high school ministries need to work together very closely with the campus ministry.
God is providing us with a timely reminder of the type of leadership people we need to be developing. Quality leadership takes time and we need to start sowing and reaping in these leaders’ lives at an early age and follow through with them while they are at University. The campus and high school/youth ministries need to work hand in hand to produce quality leaders not just for our movement but for the sake of the world. We need joined up planning by our youth and Campus ministries which may well mean that there needs to be one plan for the 14-24 year age range.
So that we can take the strategic and long range views that we urgently need if we are not to waste all the time , effort and resources that we pour in to youth ministries.
