Andy Atkins questions the growing trend among Christians towards cultural relevance
I REMEMBER going into a classroom as a schools worker to do an RE lesson on image. One of the questions we frequently posed was, 'What does a typical Christian look like?' The answers were predictable - sandals, a beard and some big flares! (Remember flares were not 'in' in 1988).
It sounds weird, but Christians were unfashionable back then. Perhaps it was for the wrong reasons, but there was something exciting about Christians being out of step with the society they lived in. Today we are so fluent in being fashionable. Why does our impact for Christ often seem so elusive? |
