From Leipzig to Chile PDF Print E-mail
Marion Schulteis
Santiago, Chile
Marion SchulteisMarion Schulteis got to know the seminar Effective study while a student at the University of Leipzig. Now, as a STINT in Chile, she is multiplying it. Marion writes: “It helped me a lot to structure my materials but also to plan my time wisely! And I did finish my studies successfully and pretty much on time!!! (Only 7 weeks later...!!!) Anyhow, last semester we offered it for the first time at one University here in Santiago and this semester we expanded it a little and offer it at 4-5 Universities. We already have been at 3 Universities and it was a great success! Also this time for the first time a student helped teach and we had a training session before the semester started which also helped a lot!

Faith in Portugal PDF Print E-mail
Marcos & Miriam Pego
Portugal

Portugal Team We received a group of 11 American university students from Miami, Ohio, with whom we went to the universities of Porto, Braga and Coimbra to talk about Jesus and share our personal experience with God. It is impressive to see the face of the majority of the university students when we say that it is possible for them to have a personal relationship with God! Most of them didn’t even know that existed! In two weeks, 4 students accepted Christ as their Lord and Saviour and many others were touched by what we told them and interested in knowing more about God, Jesus and/or the Bible.

"We were able to offer Estudio Eficaz at the University of Santiago de Chile (USACH). We got a great auditorium to hold the seminar and for doing it the first time we had quite a good turn out. About 25 to 40 students were attending the two evenings. It was a lot of work, especially since we had to translate a lot of the materials, but serving students, loving them, helping them do well, is a joy. One of the things we hear too frequently while talking to "freshmen" students is that this is their second year in the University but they are repeating many of the first years courses. The difference between high school and University study finds many unprepared. On top of that the number of distractions and temptations also multiply with the freedom that this stage of life offers. So "Effective study" was a great help to the students.

Amazing story from Freiburg PDF Print E-mail
Sarah Hayden
Freiburg, Germany

One way we meet new students is by going to the cafeteria and seeing what God does. It’s an easy way to get into conversations. This was the case with one of the guys on this years team named Anselm. He ended up sitting down with Timmy and they got into a great conversation. After their lunch was over, Timmy asked if they could get together and talk more about spiritual things. So for about the last 4 months, Anselm and Timmy met and talked about life, God, etc. Timmy started to read the Bible on his own and finally decided to set up an appointment with Anselm to pray and ask Jesus to be Lord of  his life. (We were at a staff meeting and Anselm announced that Timmy had planned on becoming a Christian today...I thought he was joking, but he was totally serious). Timmy is an incredible guy. He has lots of friends who are Christians and who have been  praying for him for years. I asked him about what his friends thought about his decision and he said that they were more than excited. We continue to realize that the people that the Lord places in our lives who aren’t Christians are such special gifts from above. Who are those people in your life?
