As term began at Oxford University this year the team embarked on a huge project to give a DVD called Illuminate to every Oxford fresher. This short film is made up of three student testimonies and a gospel presentation. By now the distribution has been completed in almost all of the colleges, and Christian students and Agape staff have been going back round the halls to follow up students. This is a slow process but it has led to some great conversations.
Excitingly, a number of students have become Christians later in the term. Some have believed after seeing the DVD, and others through their relationships with believers. Please pray for them, that they will have firm foundations in their faith and be protected from spiritual attack.

There is an odd looking bicycle on Turku University Campus. Laughter can be heard from the direction of Jyväskylä, since a stand-up comedian is present. People are running up and down the streets of Helsinki; they say that they are going to hang out. And at Tampere everyone is sitting by a fire at a nature park. What’s going on?
This all happened at fall 2007 when Agape Finland decided to reach out to new students. The goal of the outreach was to focus on new students, help them find their place in their new home town and invite them to join a community of Christian students. A vital part of all of this was tutoring, which exists to help the newcomers become a part of the group. |

The Agapé team in Oxford think they know what women want . . .
This term, the team is piloting a three-week-long course with female students at one of the colleges at Oxford University. "This has come off the back of some really great 'girly' pamper evenings that we took part in last term," says team member Sarah Mullins. These evenings, designed to help beat the infamous Oxford "fifth-week-blues", included cakes, relaxation and great chats about Jesus and the gospel. "The new course, entitled 'What Women Want', will explore three themes that we've found to be particularly relevant to Oxford students: identity, success, and beauty and perfection," says Sarah. "We hope to give students the opportunity to share about and discuss these issues, with input from a Christian perspective. We're really excited about the potential to engage with girls on a deeper level, and the opportunities to share the freedom that Jesus offers!" |

Larry, one of the Christian guys I’m building into, was sitting with a guy called Steve*. I was watching the conversation from behind and noticed they were going through the Knowing God Personally booklet. (a simple gospel outline) They’d be going through it for 10/15 minutes when Larry called me over. Steve had a question, ‘What do you mean when you say you believe in Jesus?’ I explained it was about trusting that the death and resurrection of Jesus provided the payment for our sins enabling us to come to God.

Tampere, Finland
This autumn has been busy in Tampere, Finland. September 19th, a Wednesday evening, different Christian student organisations (including Agape Finland) joined forces to throw a BBQ party on the local university campus. The party was a big hit with music, drama and of course sausages. 200 university students came to eat, have fun and get information about Christian student activities. A blessed evening!
