Students and Staff in Lithuania For years we were praying and dreaming that students would own the ministry. This year we are beginning to see glimpses of our dream! Students are owning the ministry! One of the ways they are doing it is by leading an Alpha course in their faculty.
Mante and Kristina took the initiative to lead an Alpha course in the place where they study - Natural Science and Medical faculty. Both of them are 1st year students. Mante became a Christian during one of the camps for teenagers. Kristina became a Christian just this last semester during an Alpha course that Mante brought Kristina to which was lead by one of our students Judita. Now this semester Mante and Kristina leading an Alpha course to their friends and groupmates and new students that join their Alpha group. This is what Mante wrote after 1st night of Alpha course:
“The time came for Alpha and I really felt inner strength and God's closeness, and that I am ready to share God's Word! The most challenging thing was to lead the discussion. Although I knew people that came but I was still nervous...
I think I just need more experience in leading it. After dinner, tea, video with teaching we had the discussion time. My roommate said that our discussion was like a class of philosophy for her. I felt quite tired after listening to everyone carefully, trying to understand what they meant and bringing them back to the topic. I can say that we will need lots of prayer because these people seem quite complicated. Everyone has their own faith, their own way of seeking God but I believe that with time all of them will open their eyes to the Truth.
God is really great and wants to show His love to everyone. The miracle that I think has happened at Alpha was my friend Mantas. I am a very close friend with him since first grade but recently we did not see each other often. Although I thought he will not come to Alpha I still invited him. And to my surprise he came! At end of the night I talked with Mantas and he said that he could relate to what the speaker was sharing. That he also experiences emptiness so Mantas prayed that he could have a relationship with God through Jesus Christ! I will prayer for him and I believe he will grow in his faith".
There are two more Alpha course groups lead by Agape students: Radvile leading an Alpha course at the Economics faculty.
Ramune and Dovile leading and Alpha course at the Philosophy faculty.
These students put effort and were perseverant in getting a place at University. This is not always easy in a Catholic country where we sometimes can be looked at as a cult. For example Ramune had to deal in asking for a place to meet with a professor who is pagan (practicing) and who told her "I am warning you not to waste your time on such empty things."
It is great to see and know that this is not an empty waste for our students but a meaningful investment.
Please pray that students would come to relationship with God during these Alpha course and that in the future we could have an Alpha course in faculty of Mathematics where we were denied a place to meet.
Best wishes and blessing to you all from Vilnius!
